Piracy. Everyone's done it at one point in time, and we all know it's a crime. A crime, however, that isn't heavily enforced or discouraged in society. Defined as an unauthorized copying of computer software, it can take the form of downloading movies, music or any program without permission. Technically when purchasing software, you don't 'own' it, rather, you own a license which allows you to use it on a single computer. As the program is owned solely by the company that produced it, obtaining the program from a third party (a third party being any entity that is not the company or one of its retailers) means that you don't obtain a license and are thus not legally allowed to use the program. Any unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or obtention of the program is piracy.
A growing concern for commercial industries, especially technology or entertainment-based ones, many movements to protect copyrights and prevent piracy are appearing, whether through government interference or anti-piracy ploys.
